Esparina Residences by RENOSTUD.IO is a 1066-square-foot home in the northeast of Singapore shaped around the daily rhythms of a young family.
RENOSTUD.IO designed this three bedroom apartment to be a calming retreat for a couple navigating high-pressure careers and caring for their two-year-old son. Their wish for a more luxurious and natural environment guided RENOSTUD.IO designers Jeremy and Nura’s rethinking of the apartment’s configuration and material palette. The result is a home that feels composed, warm and deeply personal.
The owners envisioned a setting that would insulate them from the intensity of corporate life. Their affinity for contemporary luxury hotels informed the visual direction, particularly the wife’s appreciation for marble-like finishes. RENOSTUD.IO approached this preference with precision, integrating materials that gesture toward hotel-level comfort without overwhelming the apartment’s need for warmth. The design team pursued a sense of ease and softness through gentle textures, balanced contrasts, and generous use and placement of lighting.
A key transformation takes place in the master bedroom and bathroom suite. The bathroom originally lacked the capacity for both a full-sized shower and a bathtub, yet incorporating both was essential to fulfilling the owners’ aspirations. By shifting the bathroom entrance, the designers unlocked a more efficient internal layout. This adjustment allowed for a full size bathtub, a spacious shower and an arrangement of mirrors and linear lighting that visually expands the room. These elements contribute to a serene, almost cocoon-like atmosphere that aligns with the family’s desire for a five-star hotel-inspired retreat.
The master bedroom continues this narrative of quiet indulgence. Darker cabinetry lends a tone of understated luxury, while grey mirrors subtly enlarge the room and soften transitions. A custom feature wall behind the bed stands as one of the project’s defining gestures. Carefully arranged layers of marble laminates, timber laminates and fine wood stripes create a balanced composition that frames the sleeping area. The wall not only anchors the room but also conceals a discreet entrance to the bathroom through the wardrobe, introducing an expected touch, a hallmark of RENOSTUD.IO’s design approach.
In the living and dining areas, materiality fosters a connection to nature—an ethos central to RENOSTUD.IO’s practice. Where natural materials could not be incorporated directly, their presence is suggested through tactility and tone. Rich wood laminates in contrasting hues animate the living area, revealing their depth when illuminated by strip lighting. Limewashed walls soften the ambience and bring a gentle, handcrafted quality to the home. Near the foyer, grey mirrored panels on the shoe cabinet reflect light and introduce a visual doubling effect that enhances the dining area. These mirrors are subtly bevelled, introducing a fine detail that elevates the overall character without drawing attention to itself.
The kitchen demanded a different type of rigor. As the functional core of the household, it needed to accommodate a full suite of appliances: dishwasher, water dispenser, oven, hob, hood, spice storage, dish rack and even provisions for a vacuum robot. RENOSTUD.IO approached this requirement with thoughtful planning and discreet integration, ensuring that the kitchen remains highly usable while maintaining a calm visual continuity. Light-coloured laminates help the kitchen feel more spacious, counterbalancing the density of built-in elements.
Every gesture throughout the home—whether a reconfigured doorway, a bevelled line or a precisely placed material transition—reflects a commitment to crafting an environment that feels both warm and elevated. The palette balances lighter tones with darker accents, avoiding heaviness while still offering the richness the owners sought. Despite the extensive built-ins required to support the family’s lifestyle, the home maintains a sense of openness and cosyness.
Esparina Residences illustrates how a compact apartment can gain function and character through thoughtful reconfiguration and meticulous detailing. It becomes a nurturing environment for a young child and a restorative haven for his parents.
