Vista House by Fabrikate

Set within Seacliff Park’s coastal landscape in South Australia, Vista House is a sensitive renewal of a mid-century home guided by Fabrikate.

The project honours the Modernist spirit of the original structure while expanding its relationship to the surrounding terrain. Subtle yet decisive, the transformation introduces new volumes and openness without sacrificing the home’s relaxed, unpretentious character.

The architectural framework was carefully retained and extended, maintaining key elements such as the locally sourced stone wall and breeze blocks that once defined the home’s fabric. Reclaimed materials were central to the process—timber from a demolished building now lines the interior walls, while salvaged rafters have been repurposed as outdoor furniture. This spirit of reuse lends depth and authenticity, tying the new interventions to the home’s existing narrative.

Inside, Fabrikate developed an interior language that balances nostalgia with contemporary warmth. The palette, inspired by the natural vistas captured through expansive glazing, reflects the surrounding gullies and coastline: sun-warmed oak, terracotta, and concrete grey layered with green-blue cabinetry that anchors the kitchen. Each gesture feels deliberate and calm, creating continuity between the built form and its environment.

Passive design principles underpin the renovation, allowing natural light and cross ventilation to shape the experience of the home. Solar panels and rainwater collection systems further reflect a commitment to sustainable living. Through a clarity of materials and proportion, Vista House embodies a kind of quiet modernity—one rooted in honesty, connection, and ease.

Fabrikate’s reimagining of Vista House moves gently between preservation and renewal, revealing a home that feels at once familiar and entirely refreshed. Through considered material choices, spatial clarity, and a connection to the surrounding landscape, Fabrikate has crafted a home that feels simultaneously grounded, welcoming, and enduring.
