Facing the historic Finca Roja in central Valencia, Housing Marvá by x.arquitectos emerges as a quietly expressive home shaped by craftsmanship, material clarity, and a deep respect for its urban context.
The renovation reimagines a pre-existing apartment with a serene sensibility, focusing on tactile warmth and a grounded connection to place.
The interior presents a calm, cohesive atmosphere anchored by lime plaster across walls and ceilings. Its matte, mineral finish introduces a natural texture that sets the tone for the home’s tranquil character. Underfoot, continuous French oak flooring contributes warmth and a sense of continuity, while natural light—treated as a central design element—softly moves across surfaces, giving each room a gentle luminosity.
A neutral material language guides the project, rooted in the honest expression of wood, plaster, and carefully selected stoneware. Furnishings reflect a dialogue between international modernism and local craftsmanship. In the living room, a generous Joquer sofa pairs with a Jean Prouvé coffee table, accompanied by two Eames Lounge Chairs that emphasise comfort and longevity. A soft-toned rug defines the seating area, grounding the arrangement without imposing on the overall calm.
The dining area introduces a sculptural presence with a red table designed by Carlo Scarpa for Cassina. Its distinctive geometry and colour bring a sense of quiet drama, while the surrounding pieces—lighting and seating by Santa & Cole—maintain the warm, understated atmosphere that threads through the home.
The kitchen centres around an island crafted from Living Ceramics porcelain, chosen for durability and a refined, elegant finish. This material extends to built-in benches that link interior and exterior moments, creating an unbroken visual continuity. The bathrooms reflect the same sensitivity, incorporating the Frame collection designed by x.arquitectos for Resigres. Natural oak, porcelain stoneware, and brushed stainless steel hardware by Formani contribute to a palette that balances resilience with tactile comfort.
A defining gesture of the project is the seamless relationship between the interior and the terrace. A continuous bench bridges the threshold, encouraging an easy transition that allows the home to embrace the surrounding cityscape. Outside, Vitra seating and Marset lighting carry the interior’s atmosphere into the open air, establishing a quiet alignment between the two realms. Handmade ceramic vases by Canoa Lab appear throughout, grounding the home in Mediterranean craft traditions.
Natural linen curtains filter daylight with a soft, fluid quality, providing privacy without sacrificing brightness. Architectural lighting by Arkos Light is integrated with precision, highlighting volumes without overpowering the material calm.
Guided by Ernesto Correa and Patricia Maldonado, co-founders of x.arquitectos, Housing Marvá reflects a practice attentive to both emotional depth and functional clarity.
