TIMBRE Collection by Rosana Sousa
The TIMBRE Collection by Rosana Sousa presents a series of collectible furniture and objects crafted from repurposed solid walnut and oak wood.
The materials are locally sourced from surplus stock at a furniture factory in Porto, redirecting what would otherwise be discarded into new forms with lasting value. Through a singular production process, offcuts are assembled, cut, and joined into volumetric structures, creating entirely new solid wood panels. These panels form the foundation for the collection’s clean, rational forms, allowing both structure and surface to tell the story of their making.
The patchwork panels are distinguished by their handcrafted striped compositions, achieved through the precise integration of timber fragments with varying grain patterns and tones. This technique not only extends the life cycle of the wood but also elevates its natural beauty, producing pieces that are both functional and sculptural. Guided by a synergy between traditional woodworking and modern production methods, the collection reflects Portugal’s rich heritage of craftsmanship while addressing the challenges of a “take-make-dispose” manufacturing culture.
Comprising a chair, counter stool, side table, coffee table, and vase, the TIMBRE Collection offers two material combinations – solid walnut and oak – each with a distinct tonal character. Every piece is one-of-a-kind, shaped by the availability of raw materials and the inherent variations of natural timber.
The Vaga Chair presents a bold, geometric silhouette, its chunky proportions softened by the intricate patchwork surface. Precision-crafted and balanced in form, it acts as both a functional seat and an art object, designed to be appreciated from every angle.
The Arquivo Counter Stool combines clean, linear lines with the warmth and texture of solid timber. Its carefully composed surfaces invite close inspection, revealing the skill and patience embedded in its making.
The Trama Coffee Table and Trama Side Table continue the collection’s language of rational structure paired with tactile richness. Their surfaces highlight the interplay between the refined geometry of the forms and the organic unpredictability of the material.
Completing the collection, the Timbre Vase merges the precision of architectural lines with gentle, carved curvature. Best suited for dried arrangements, it serves equally as a sculptural accent piece, celebrating the grain and tone of each unique timber composition.
Through this considered approach, the TIMBRE Collection transforms surplus materials into enduring works that blend resourcefulness with refined craftsmanship. Each object carries a sense of permanence and individuality, offering warmth, texture, and character to contemporary living.
