Thierry Lemaire : Solo Exhibition at The Future Perfect Los Angeles
Conceived by founder of The Future Perfect, David Alhadeff, the show explores the intersection of architecture, collectible design, and the Decorative Arts, highlighting Lemaire's distinctive approach to material, form, and craftsmanship.
For this exhibition, Lemaire has created a series of works conceived specifically for the gallery. Collaborating closely with master artisans, he produces pieces that combine Brutalist-inspired forms with organic gestures and noble materials such as marble, patinated bronze, lacquer, and onyx. Many of these sculptural objects draw directly from Lemaire’s recent travels in Mexico, taking inspiration from the modernist architecture of Luis Barragán, the geometric rigor of the Church of the Resurrection in Cuajimalpa, the region’s lush natural environment, and Mexico’s rich mineral heritage.
Alongside these stone pieces, Lemaire introduces furniture designed with the same attention to form and materiality. The OMNIA sofa and lounge chair feature soft, fluid lines that evoke the mineral qualities of onyx, while the KAALA and TWIST collections, crafted in burnt steel, fuse fire and form in compositions that feel both spontaneous and precise. Each piece balances a controlled approach to material with the expressive potential of the artisan's hand.
The exhibition presents these works as interconnected ensembles, creating a contemplative landscape where sculptural, architectural, and functional forms coexist. Visitors encounter a dialogue between elegance and experimentation, between the permanence of stone and bronze and the subtle dynamism of soft furnishings, revealing Lemaire's evolving vision of design as a continually exploratory practice.
