The Plinth Collection by Emre Yunus Uzun for Monde Singulier

Istanbul-based designer Emre Yunus Uzun has created PLINTH, a five-piece furniture and lighting collection designed exclusively for Monde Singulier.

Taking the architectural archetype of the plinth as its starting point, the collection translates a structural foundation into functional objects for domestic space. A console, side table, pedestal, floor lamp, and table lamp form a family that can stand individually or together, united by a consistent architectural language.

The Plinth Collection acts as a study of form, stripping away ornamentation to isolate the base. By recontextualizing this supporting element, the design explores the pure geometry, mass, and inherent gravity of the pedestal itself. The plinth is no longer a neutral support but the subject of the design, and each piece asks how monumentality can be reduced to an intimate scale without losing clarity or presence.

Rejecting temporary design codes, the series stands as a monument for the interior. Each volume is built from a composition of base, mass, and plane, designed to hold space and create a physical manifestation of permanence and architectural silence. Faceted volumes and precise junctions give the objects a sculptural presence while preserving their utility. Tinted oak establishes a deep, monolithic character, balanced by the weight and natural variation of stone.

Plinth Console: The console anchors the Plinth system in its most functional form. A single multi-faceted column in sand-blasted tinted oak, pale-grained and architectural in proportion, rises from an octagonal foot to carry a wide travertine top with softly rounded corners. The pedestal structure strips back any lateral support, leaving only column, material, and plane.

Plinth Side Table: The side table brings the collection's material vocabulary into a low, compact form. The octagonal body in sand-blasted tinted oak stands on a distinctively flared base, its concave curved facets giving the foot a scalloped profile that reads as architectural moulding. A travertine top completes the material system, warm and monochromatic, with nothing added for decoration.

Plinth Pedestal: The pedestal occupies a room the way a column does. The octagonal shaft in sand-blasted tinted oak rises vertically to a travertine top, and at the base a scalloped flared foot broadens the silhouette into something closer to architectural moulding than a furniture leg. The piece functions as a vertical accent and display surface, placing an object and the space around it in equal relation.

Plinth Table Lamp: The table lamp builds its base from stacked, faceted layers of travertine, the stone cut into horizontal tiers as opposed to being shaped from a single block. An octagonal linen shade rests directly on the base, warm brown and close-woven, diffusing a soft ambient glow. The layered travertine and the proximate shade keep the object at a domestic, intimate scale.

Plinth Floor Lamp: The floor lamp applies the collection's octagonal language to light. The multi-faceted column in sand-blasted tinted oak narrows toward its centre before widening at the base, a contrapuntal silhouette distinct from conventional floor lamp standards. An octagonal textile shade, warm-toned, diffuses the light as a broad ambient field as opposed to a directed beam.

All pieces are handcrafted in Istanbul.
