New Sculptural Pieces by Jordi López Aguiló Explore Light, Movement, and Material Honesty

Jordi López Aguiló of Kutarq Studio introduces a collection of new pieces that moves between lighting, furniture, and functional sculpture. Across the series, each object is shaped by a clear interest in movement, material honesty, and the quiet tension between technical precision and poetic presence.

The collection brings together TOTEM DE LUZ, the CORNELIA MUSIC STAND, the 4D Coffee Table, and the 4D Stools. Although each piece serves a different purpose, they share a common language. Mechanisms are not hidden away, structure becomes part of the visual identity, and materials are allowed to express their weight, surface, and construction with clarity.

TOTEM DE LUZ reimagines the floor lamp as a kinetic sculpture. Built around an elegant double pulley system, the piece allows a cylindrical light source to travel vertically within its body. This simple movement changes the way the lamp interacts with a room. When lifted, the light reaches a translucent onyx diffuser at the top, casting a warm glow across the ceiling. When lowered, the beam aligns with a lateral oval opening, creating focused illumination for reading or work.

This analog adjustment gives the object a tactile quality. Light is not controlled through a remote or hidden switch, but through a physical gesture. The act of moving the lamp becomes part of the experience, slowing down the relationship between user, object, and atmosphere.

The CORNELIA MUSIC STAND continues this exploration of functional sculpture. Designed for cellist Cornelia Babbitt, the stand brings together musical utility and architectural presence. Its 10mm laser cut aluminum frame is marked by bold perforations and visible assembly screws, giving the piece an honest industrial character.

A height adjustment system allows the stand to move between seated and standing performance positions. Once set, an aluminum cylinder locking mechanism secures the structure in place. The frame rests on a Nero Marquina marble base, whose dark surface and pale veining provide a grounded contrast to the precision of the metal. The piece serves the musician while holding its own as an object within a studio, performance space, or interior.

The 4D Coffee Table and 4D Stools extend the collection’s focus on movement into stainless steel. Both designs are made from a single 5mm thick sheet, shaped by hand bending without welding or added components. A flat 2D surface becomes a three dimensional form through force, gesture, and material memory.

In the 4D Coffee Table, the bent legs create negative spaces that give the object visual lightness despite its solid steel construction. The design feels direct and minimal, yet still expressive. Its square form and monomaterial construction give it a strong presence, while the bends reveal the physical process behind its making.

The 4D Stools apply the same principle on a smaller scale. Each stool captures the moment when a flat sheet becomes a usable object, preserving the sense of movement within the metal. Compact, durable, and precise, the stools reflect a sustainable approach to design through simplicity, longevity, and material efficiency.

Together, these new works by Jordi López Aguiló present a collection where function is treated as a starting point for sculptural exploration. A lamp becomes a ritual object, a music stand becomes a studio centerpiece, and sheets of steel become furniture through the language of bending. Across lighting, performance, and living spaces, Kutarq Studio’s new pieces show how everyday objects can carry movement, craft, and atmosphere within their form.
