Deauville by Katz Studio
Set above a vast garden, the home unfolds in soft volumes and a muted palette, where each space is attuned to the surrounding light and the tactile quality of its materials. Light oak flooring and subtly textured walls provide a quiet, continuous backdrop, allowing each carefully placed furniture piece and bespoke creation to emerge with clarity.
The entrance offers an immediate sculptural statement. A fluid, airy spiral staircase curves upward as a central focal point, its movement complemented by a custom-made green concrete console that anchors the space. Mineral-textured floors and walls reinforce the materiality of the setting, while a photographic series by Chen Cohen introduces a restrained yet resonant artistic layer, engaging directly with the interplay of light and form.
In the first living room, comfort is expressed through generous, enveloping furnishings. Two Pacha armchairs by Pierre Paulin and a Sesann sofa by Gianfranco Frattini, upholstered in warm brown bouclé, create a sense of intimacy. Their rounded forms rest atop a Pierre Paulin rug for Ligne Roset, its undulating patterns underscored by the gentle illumination of alabaster wall sconces. Beyond, a wide arch frames the dining room, where a textured work by Loris Gréaud injects visual intensity and anchors the space between abstraction and material expression.
The dining room continues the dialogue between craft and modernity. A sculptural concrete table is surrounded by Pigreco chairs by Tobia Scarpa, their wood frames paired with brown leather seats. Overhead, a Gino Sarfatti pendant light offers a soft, floating glow. A custom-designed sideboard in brushed light oak with aged bronze detailing, also by Katz Studio, features recessed handles carved directly into the material, reflecting a meticulous, handcrafted approach.
Facing the sea winds of Normandy, this duplex has been reimagined by Katz Studio into a refined retreat where architecture, interiors, and art are conceived as one.
A second living area adopts a moodier tone, marked by stronger contrasts and playful accents. Here, a large modular ecru sofa speckled with multicoloured threads is offset by a pair of pink Soriana armchairs by Afra and Tobia Scarpa. A bespoke eucalyptus coffee table by Katz Studio centres the arrangement, while artworks intensify the room's layered identity. Above two vintage Italian khaki-green armchairs, a work by Erwin Olaf infuses cinematic tension through its focus on texture and composition. Nearby, a conceptual piece by John Baldessari uses fragmented imagery and framing to disrupt narrative expectations, creating an active visual dialogue within the space.
The primary bedroom is conceived as a sanctuary of softness. A Mushroom armchair by Pierre Paulin nestles into a quiet alcove, where organic ceramics and a small selection of art books create moments of personal reflection. Curved architectural details and sculpted niches lend an enveloping quality to the room, while monochromatic works by Bernar Venet and Sakiko Nomura offer a crisp counterpoint to the warm, hushed palette.
Throughout the duplex, the fusion of tailored interiors and an art collection chosen for both visual impact and tactile quality results in an environment that is at once understated and highly considered. By drawing on materials of enduring appeal and forms that embrace both precision and sensuality, Katz Studio has created a home that feels timeless yet deeply personal, a composition in which every element finds its place with quiet authority.
