Sunlit Escapes by Intheory Design

Sunlit Escapes is a family home by Intheory Design, shaped around a clear intention to slow life down.

Designed for parents balancing demanding careers with the needs of two young daughters, the interiors create a quiet counterpoint to fast-paced days. The brief centred on ease and restoration, drawing on the feeling of simple pre-parenthood getaways where a short break could reset the mind and body. That holiday calm became the atmosphere to bring home.

Intheory Design approached the project through a soft Japandi lens, focusing on warmth, light, and comfort without leaning into anything decorative or overly styled. A palette of light woods, sandy neutrals, and soft whites keeps the spaces bright and breathable, helping natural light travel through the home. The overall mood is relaxed and open, with finishes chosen to feel calm at any hour of the day.

At the heart of the layout is the living room, planned as a shared hub where the family can reconnect in the evenings. Play and downtime are supported within the same space, with a dedicated children’s art corner integrated into the living area. This built-in creative station allows the daughters to draw, paint, and work on projects while staying close to their parents, supporting togetherness without forcing everyone into the same activity.

Functionality is handled with the same quiet clarity. Storage was treated as an essential backdrop, designed to keep daily life organised while maintaining a clean visual flow. Custom carpentry runs through the home in continuous lines, concealing clutter and supporting routines that vary from one family member to the next. The solutions feel purposeful and discreet, keeping the interiors serene even during busy weeks.

Material choices reinforce this lived-in calm. Light-toned timber cabinetry adds warmth while maintaining an airy, minimal look. Soft neutral laminates and painted surfaces reflect daylight and keep the home feeling spacious. In the bathrooms, stone-look tiles introduce subtle texture while staying aligned with the broader palette. Across every room, durability and longevity were prioritised so the finishes can age well alongside an active young family.

Sunlit Escapes is designed to be flexible, steady, and easy to live in. It supports mess, movement, and growth, while preserving a sense of softness and retreat. As the children get older and routines change, the home holds its calm, offering a place that can keep pace when needed and slow things down when it matters most.
