O XXIII by OPUS Atelier

OPUS Atelier has transformed a former fashion atelier into an elegant pied-à-terre in Milan's prestigious Fashion District, featuring rich materials and concealed functional spaces that create a sophisticated urban retreat.

Located in a historic building in central Milan, this residential project showcases the studio's signature approach to material contrast and spatial composition, creating an environment that bridges classical Italian architecture with modern living requirements.

"We envisioned a space that would serve as both a sanctuary and a statement," explain OPUS Atelier founders Maura Pinto and Piervito Pirulli. "Each design decision was made to create a timeless atmosphere that honors the building's heritage while embracing contemporary luxury."

The apartment's layout revolves around a central living area, where the designers have crafted an intimate alcove lined with Canaletto walnut wood. This welcoming space features a generously proportioned sofa, while cleverly concealed storage solutions and a kitchen are integrated behind symmetrical door systems flanking the room.

A sophisticated boiserie module in the living area conceals dual access points – one leading to a guest bathroom, the other to the private quarters. The corridor connecting these spaces extends the coffered detailing from the living room, creating a continuous architectural narrative across walls and ceiling.

In the bedroom wing, custom walk-in closets demonstrate the studio's attention to material interplay, featuring a striking contrast between resin-finished surfaces and warm walnut wood elements. The master suite's bathroom elevates the design further with Guatemala marble accents in the vanity and shower areas – a material choice that carries through to the kitchen's countertops and shelving.

A notable addition to the apartment is an intimate home cinema space, where the designers have employed warmer tones to create an intimate atmosphere. Here, a bespoke wall unit faces a deep-set sofa, offering a cozy retreat for film viewing.

The material palette throughout O XXIII creates a dialogue between tradition and innovation. Natural elements such as wood and marble interact with contemporary resin surfaces, resulting in what the studio describes as "an image suspended in time.”

Founded in 2019, OPUS atelier approaches each project as a work of art, sculpting space and material to create enduring environments. The Milan-based studio works across various scales, from architectural projects to product design, with a creative process rooted in studying the genius loci – the distinctive atmosphere of a place.
