Australian wellness brand Capybara Bathing has opened its first international studio in Singapore, bringing its signature approach to slow, social bathing to the city’s wellness landscape.

Located at 77 Tras Street in Tanjong Pagar, the 3,000 sq ft studio translates the brand’s Australian philosophy into a setting shaped by design, ceremony and community.

Inspired by the capybara, known for its calm and sociable nature, the brand reimagines bathing as a contemporary ritual centred on connection with self, others and the natural world. Singapore marks the brand’s second sensory space, with the studio led by Nicole Chew, Partner and Director of Capybara Bathing Singapore, and created with a team of Sydney architects, an art collector and an object maker.

The studio has been conceived as an intimate environment for ritualised bathing, with capacity intentionally controlled during each session. Texture, sound and temperature shape the experience across a series of bathing and recovery environments, including magnesium mineral baths maintained at 38–40°C, cold plunges at 6–8°C, heated lounges and steam rooms.

A distinctive addition to the Singapore studio is the country’s first Nordic-inspired hot lounge, where shaved ice and body salt scrubs introduce another sensory dimension to the bathing ritual. Guests can also expect bespoke programming spanning sound, movement, meditation, aroma and guided recovery, with sessions available for sign-ups from early 2026.

Community has always been central to Capybara Bathing’s approach, with the Australian brand known for creative collaborations and programming that brings people together through wellness. In Singapore, this philosophy takes shape through commissioned artworks, collaborations with local designers, wellness practitioners and ceramists, alongside private events, workshops and gatherings.

The studio has been conceived as a cultural and wellness destination where art, architecture and ritual come together. Its programming will continue to evolve through collaborations with practitioners and makers, allowing the experience to remain closely connected to Singapore’s creative community.

“We see bathing as a modern ceremony — one that connects people through water, warmth, and stillness,” says Nicole Chew, Partner of Capybara Bathing Singapore. “In Singapore, we wanted to bring that same spirit of communal calm, while celebrating local artistry and craft.”

Local collaboration extends into the studio’s physical details. Singaporean label rye has designed the uniforms, bringing its understated craftsmanship and quiet elegance into the brand’s visual language. Landscape design has been developed in collaboration with PluntCo, while Mud Rock Ceramics contributes handcrafted pieces throughout the studio.

A roster of local wellness practitioners will also lead yoga, stretch and sound ritual sessions, extending Capybara Bathing’s philosophy beyond bathing itself. Together, these collaborations position wellness as a cultural practice shaped by the relationship between design, artistry, place and the body.

With its first international studio, Capybara Bathing brings an Australian interpretation of communal bathing to Singapore, creating a setting where water, warmth, craft and creative exchange can become part of everyday wellbeing.
