Form is an inevitable element and is always the starting point for Michiko PICCO when she photographs, no matter what the subject.

She finds herself often attracted to shapes without straight lines or anything regular, and is constantly searching for universal beauty to decipher from the plant world.

This collection of botanical forms has strengthened her belief in that it is impossible for humans to reproduce such sophisticated creations although we tend to believe that we are capable of creating and inventing anything we want.

“I’m often fascinated by something unnoticeable in my life and subtle lines in nature. Through such humble objects, I always love seeking an extraordinary image in keeping simplicity which is probably inspired by my Japanese culture.”

The pursuit of botanical forms is also her way of showing her respect for the natural world. In this series, Michiko attempted to capture the different silhouettes of flowers though the passage of time in an aesthetic and timeless way. Her intuition is to turn something fragile into a moment of elegance, hoping that the delicate natural curves will resonate with our sensibility.
