Kowtow Naarm opens its first international boutique in Melbourne's Fitzroy neighborhood, showcasing their commitment to sustainability and mindful practices within a historically rich setting.

Kowtow Naarm expands its presence with the opening of its first international boutique in the vibrant and culturally significant Fitzroy neighbourhood of Melbourne. Designed by the Knight Associates, this project exemplifies the brand's commitment to creating a captivating retail experience.

Building upon the success of their existing retail touchpoints in Auckland and Wellington, New Zealand, Kowtow Naarm brings its unique aesthetic and sustainable ethos to Melbourne, offering a harmonious blend of style and sustainability in a historically rich setting.

The interior of Kowtow Naarm is a testament to the brand's commitment to sustainability and their passion for showcasing the lifecycle of cotton. Knight Associates has crafted a space that embodies simplicity of design and material richness, while staying true to Kowtow's 'off-grid' philosophy.

Nestled within a mid-nineteenth-century commercial building on Gertrude St., the boutique spans across two floors and exudes an understated elegance. The interior features a carefully curated palette of ethically sourced natural materials, reflecting Kowtow's dedication to mindful practices. Floor-to-ceiling joinery made from Spotted Gum, wall coverings of coarse Limewash plaster, suspended panels of Kozo washi, reclaimed timber cabinetry, and textiles crafted from linen and wool create a blend of textures. The refinished floor, crafted from Victorian Ash, adds a touch of warmth to the space.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Kowtow Naarm represents a new paradigm in sustainable fashion retail. The boutique seamlessly integrates physical and digital channels, offering customers a holistic brand experience. This innovative approach allows Kowtow's clientele to engage with the brand on multiple levels, while aligning with the brand's ethos of leaving a positive impact on the planet.

As a gesture of respect, Knight Associates also acknowledged the traditional owners and custodians of the land, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. They pay homage to the elders of the past, present, and emerging, recognising their invaluable connection to the land.
