Embarking on a new chapter this Fall, the Tokyo-based, heritage-inspired brand DAMDAM, announces the opening of its new permanent brick-and-mortar storefront in Kyoto, Japan.

The beauty and wellness line, best known for aspiring to preserve the concept of 'slow beauty' with thoughtfully made skincare products that encourage rituals of Japanese skincare culture, is officially planting its roots in Kyoto, Japan, as of October 17th, 2023.

Located in the historic neighborhood of Gion in Kyoto, DAMDAM’s one-level physical space has been meticulously designed to represent the elevated features of the brand by architect, Studio Hashimura, who created a clean, minimal, and neutral interior with pops of color that are reminiscent of the brand’s core color design. Each shelf is made from Japanese Washi by Gen Taniguchi, a 7th-generation Washi Artisan, and the eye-catching red table is lacquered using a rare Japanese technique that utilizes cashew nuts for the pigment. Upon entering the shop, you’ll be greeted by staff clad in uniforms made by a Franco-Japanese design duo L’armoire, using upcycled antique Japanese yukata and French linen fabrics. Products are packed in reusable market tote bags available for shoppers. DAMDAM is officially stepping into its next phase of life with its modern Japanese storefront that brings DAMDAM’s worldview into a physical space in the heart of Kyoto.

“We’re thrilled to open our first storefront in Kyoto, the cultural heart of Japan. As a brand committed to Japanese craftsmanship, it made sense for us to open in Kyoto when the rare opportunity presented itself, shares Co-Founders of DAMDAM, Giselle Go and Phlippe Terrien. The location is so special – the shop is set in the historic neighborhood of Gion and directly across Yasaka Jinja. We feel honored and privileged to be welcomed into Kyoto’s tight-knit community, and excited for this milestone.”

DAMDAM’s top-of-the-line natural and sustainably sourced skincare (exclusively sold at Sephora.com for US shoppers) has brought them to the forefront for its use of ancestral Japanese ingredients and rituals. As an extension of the brand, shoppers can find an array of DAMDAM’s J-Beauty products that range from skin, hair, and body - including best-sellers such as Mochi Mochi Cream, Citrus Glow Vitamin C + Hyaluronic Serum, and Allure’s Best of Beauty Award winner Snow Mushroom Salt Cleanser, along with one-of-kind handcrafted atelier objects and pieces by Japanese artisans supported by DAMDAM available to shop at the new storefront.
